Please be sure to read the 2024 Parole Hearing Notes for a full picture of what transpired the day of the Hearing. There was one shared news camera for the stations. Several stations used his prepared statement, read at the beginning, and he appears to say some appropriate phrases.
However, the prepared statement was riddled with lies and subsequent questions from the Parole Board uncovered his lack of emotion and ability to take responsibility for his actions. Here are some highlights from the hearing
However, the prepared statement was riddled with lies and subsequent questions from the Parole Board uncovered his lack of emotion and ability to take responsibility for his actions. Here are some highlights from the hearing
- RB claims they dated. The family statement responded that Beth herself said she had not dated him.
- RB claims he took drugs and alcohol before the murder. However, evidence from the original trial showed he took these items AFTER the murder. And when pressed at the Parole Board hearing, he repeatedly changed the timeline of when he took the drugs. He said 45 minutes before, then just before, then in the doorway of the home, then upstairs.
- He said he contests premeditating the murder. The Parole Board called him out for this, stating a jury convicted him of this.
- He's been addicted to illegal and prescription drugs, including snorting Wellbutrin. His reports showed 174 incidents in prison, including several violent acts that were not done while on drugs. This included attempted murder via strangulation of another prisoner, beating an unconscious corrections officer, getting into fights as recently as 2022, and taking drugs as recently as a month ago. But he chose to tell a story about how he's "only hurt two indigenous people" in his life, which was his mother in childbirth and another incident involving his sister. The drugs he said were taken to "forget" what he'd done

Email response from Representative Lenny Mirra
Dear Sean, Thank you for taking the time to write to me about something as difficult as this, I’m sure this whole ordeal has not been easy. I was living on Ashcroft Circle in Groveland when this horrible crime took place. It was shocking to say the least. So I’m familiar with the case and yes I’m also aware of this SJC ruling. Like you I don’t agree with the ruling and I will do all I can to address it and make sure that Mr. Baldwin never gets out of prison. I’ve always been a believer in strong laws and punishments that protect us from violent criminals and this case shows why we should always be diligent in making sure sentences are carried out. I did visit the Facebook page and I see that Danielle Avery will be issuing bracelets at Groveland Town Hall tonight. I will do all I can to get there and give my support in any way I can. Sincerely, Representative Lenny Mirra Second Essex District State House, Room 130 Boston, MA 02133 Office: (617) 722-2130 Cell: (978) 888-5212 |
